Name : Katie Rife / Alias : AV Club
We . get zombie diarrhea jokes, zombie fat jokes, zombie selfie jokes, zombie cat-lady jokes, and zombie stripper jokes. And when all of this starts to seem too crass, out come the cliched lessons .

Name : Justin Chang / Alias : Variety
The Scouts save the day, but not the movie, in this witless zombie-comedy retread.

Name : Michael Ordona / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
"Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" is exactly what you'd expect. But better.

Name : Maggie Lee / Alias : Variety
A lazily executed dud padded out with infantile pranks, shambolic plot turns and knockabout action.

Name : Liz Braun / Alias : Toronto Sun
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse manages to be a very good comedy, a scary adventure, a tale of friendship and a coming of age story, all rolled into one.

Name : Geoff Berkshire / Alias : Variety
Disappointingly [succumbs] to an exhausting case of been-there-done-that-itis.

Name : Kyle Smith / Alias : New York Post
If your idea of a hot joke is a strip club called "Lawrence of Alabia," step right up to "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse," a horror-comedy that takes a weak premise (do high school boys even go scouting anymore?) and barely uses it, anyway.

Name : Bruce Kirkland / Alias : Toronto Sun
Piece by piece, Singer fits this ninth film in the franchise (which includes Deadpool) into the X-Men universe like a master puzzle maker. He does it so well, at least in terms of storytelling, that the X-Men franchise still has a vigorous future.

Name : Ben Sachs / Alias : Chicago Reader
Directed by the inimitable Takashi Miike. Apocalypse finds the 55-year-old filmmaker at his silliest, which is saying a lot, as he's responsible for some of the silliest movies ever made.

Name : Ignatiy Vishnevetsky / Alias : AV Club
Yakuza Apocalypse is the kind of free-for-all only Miike could stage-pitting not merely different characters, but different genres and tones against each other, until the world cracks in two under the weight.

Name : Devan Coggan / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
After decades of well-trodden zombie tropes, a successful zombie movie has to be at least one of three things: a) original b) funny or c) actually scary. Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse doesn't earn a merit badge in any one of those categories.

Name : Noel Murray / Alias : Los Angeles Times
As horror, "Scouts Guide" is too frivolous to thrill. As comedy, it leans too much on scenes that see the teens groping big-breasted topless zombies or the beasties sexually molesting young girls.

Name : Michael Phillips / Alias : Chicago Tribune
I've seen worse this year. And better.

Name : Todd McCarthy / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Despite the undeniable presence of a huge amount of action, X-Men: Apocalypse is decidedly a case of more is less.

Name : Mick LaSalle / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
This is turning into the season of superheroes battling other superheroes, but "X-Men: Apocalypse" is the first one, so far, to do it right.

Name : Nick Schager / Alias : Village Voice
If you can get on its wacko wavelength, it's a uniquely crazed, compelling midnight-movie whatsit.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : Newark Star-Ledger
The result is a movie that's outrageous without being funny, and gruesome without being scary.

Name : Manori Ravindran / Alias : Globe and Mail
It's the best public relations boost Scouting has had since it ended its ban on gay leaders, not to mention a pretty decent zombie film.

Name : Tom Huddleston / Alias : Time Out
Will make you want to punch the nearest teenage boy in the face.

Name : Bilge Ebiri / Alias : New York Magazine/Vulture
The gags are mostly puerile and uninspired - like the film was dreamed up by a bunch of tired, wired 13-year-olds; it has their insistence but little of their invention.

Name : Edward Douglas / Alias : New York Daily News
Unlike some of the cheesier remnants of the '80s, we'll probably want to see more of these new X-Men.

Name : Bilge Ebiri / Alias : Village Voice
What makes X-Men: Apocalypse so exciting isn't really any one thing but rather its cohesion, its storytelling verve.

Name : Chris Nashawaty / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
Apocalypse isn't quite a dog. But it is a movie with way too much of everything except the things that should matter the most - novelty, creativity, and fun.

Name : Peter Howell / Alias : Toronto Star
The film falls prey to the zombie curse of excessive laddishness, but at least it finds room for a strong female character.

Name : Alonso Duralde / Alias : TheWrap
Marks a shocking letdown from Singer's earlier contributions; what once soared now slogs.

Name : Soren Anderson / Alias : Seattle Times
Lurid and nutso doesn't even begin to describe this opus. You have to see it to believe it . if you have the stomach for it.

Name : Alan Zilberman / Alias : Washington Post
This is not a great film, yet for the right audience it could be an entertaining one.

Name : Alonso Duralde / Alias : TheWrap
Too often revels in juvenile gags involving poop and penises, but you can see shards of the film it might have been.

Name : Brian Truitt / Alias : USA Today
The latest in the X-Men movie franchise is just X-meh.

Name : Soren Anderson / Alias : Seattle Times
Well, it's got that title going for it. So there's that.

Name : Noel Murray / Alias : Los Angeles Times
For those fans who don't mind enduring some tedium and confusion, "Yakuza Apocalypse" at least offers something memorably bizarre.

Name : Nicolas Rapold / Alias : New York Times
By the end . you might be as punch-drunk as Kageyama in his final showdown, and too exhausted to care.

Name : Neil Genzlinger / Alias : New York Times
It's all too dumb and ribald for most tastes, but if you liked all the zombie comedies that came before, well, here's another one.

Name : Tom Huddleston / Alias : Time Out
No surprises here, just a seen-it-before world domination plot carried out by a petulant Pharaoh with a head like a chewed pencil.

Name : David Rooney / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
[A] numbingly idiotic vampire yakuza tale.
